My Grandmother’s Bible Stories had a great influence on my life. They often gave HOPE to women in prison by spiritual truths. Each story gives fresh perspective when we face sudden fears, shocking news, or disappointments. They remind us that our situation is NOT a surprise to God. We’ve been warned in
John 10:10 “The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But Jesus came to bring us life!”
The story-example from I Samuel–Chapter 30 is a favorite! After David returned home from a huge battle, he faced a burning town and their missing families. His exhausted warriors were overcome with grief and could weep no more. They were ready to stone him! David CHOSE to look past what he saw… and look to GOD.
1 Samuel 30:6 ”But David encouraged himself in the Lord.”
In his painful desperation, David asked God, “What shall I do?” The answer came quickly.
1 Samuel 30:8 “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail, recover all.”
God not only gave David direction to PURSUE, but gave him the HOPE of a good result so he WOULD ACT on what God said to do. God said HE would give back MORE than they had at first. God rewards those who trust Him.
I Samuel 30:20 “This is David’s spoil.”
