The Bible records how Jesus changed people’s lives when He was here on earth. After His death and resurrection, He returned to His Father, leaving us with an Assignment: DO WHAT JESUS DID. He gave us His Word and sent the Holy Spirit to live in us with Power to create and change things. When we speak kind words, or a Scripture to people, we can bring hope, healing, and peace into their life.
Helen Mrosla was a Nun whose one assignment changed the lives of her students. In the midst of an angry class discussion, she told each child to list the names of every student on a piece of paper. Then she said to write ONE thing they liked about EACH student. Later, she gave each student a paper with their OWN NAME on it. She had copied ALL the nice things other students said about them. With amazing delight, the students exclaimed “I never knew anyone felt that way.”
Years later, Helen attended a Funeral for one student and learned the value of her simple assignment. The young man had carried a fifteen-year-old ragged, yellow paper with him everywhere…even to death in rice fields halfway around the world. What made him do that? The answer is simply “Appreciation”.
